Hi Everyone,
NOTES:
**Thanks to Suzie for canning butter with me. I did pint jars, and found that each jar held just about 1 pound butter. I now have 22 pounds of butter stored in the upstairs closet. The butter I canned in 2018 is still good. I’m rotating through it now.
**Reviewing Water Storage
Are you wondering how to store water in 55 gallon drums? Or in 5 gallon bottles? Here are some good sites that will give you that information.

** Ham Radio Test. I found this online. You can use this app to study for the test.‎ HamStudy.org on the App Store. The app is $3.99. I did NOT use it and claim no knowledge of its efficacy. THIS is the one I used.  HamTestOnline™ I had to pay $39 for a year’s subscription, but it taught me so well, that I passed the test easily. There is also a Radio Club that created YouTube videos. I should go back and review them myself.(509) West Desert Amateur Radio Club – YouTube
GARDEN HAPPENINGS:
** The tomatoes are all planted. The marigolds went out into the sun yesterday, along with the calendula (a good medicinal plant with large flowers that attract pollinators). Peppers and celery are still inside under the lights. Not quite big enough.
** This week I’ll be planting the squash that is ready to go in. Then, finally the beans. I do NOT have luck with pole beans, so bush beans it is! Don’t want to wait too long. I’ll plant those directly from seed.
THIS WEEK’S PURCHASE: oats – 1/2 container per person per month (8 cups)
I like to store oats in the packages they come in. As long as no mice or other gnawing critter gets into the package, they will be fine for years. Number 10 cans of oats are good for 20 years. They are available at any Home Storage center. You can just google “LDS Home Storage Center near me”. Quick and Regular oats are $6.67 and $7.17 respectively. All of the food offered by the Home Storage Centers is also available online, however individual cans are not an option. You can only buy cases of each item – six to a case.
My dad lived through the Great Depression. He said they often had oatmeal for dinner. It filled them up, and is even good for you! Adding nuts, or fruit can help with the monotony.

MISC. PURCHASE: – Think about adding Water Purification tablets to your storage.
It’s about $12 for 2 bottles of tablets. Two bottles will clean 50 quarts of water. I’m pretty sure my bottles are more than 5 years old (an average expiration date). They lose effectiveness over time.
